Machismo is a word that the Merriam-Webster dictionary defines as "a strong sense of masculine pride; an exaggerated masculinity." Mostly represented in Latin cultures machismo sets a rigid gender role it means to set behaviors and rules of conduct that are inculcated into boys by our society as being strong, tough and independent, showing no emotion.” The man of the house makes these sets of rules or regulations that are basically what the male says must go. The women had been beaten and stabbed to death. In these certain societies, many women have to face certain barriers in order to live and survive domestic violence. Dependence on their partner was one of thé main issues prohibiting victims from making positive changes. Men who adhere to the machismo tradition are especially conservative toward women working. Emotional dependency is comprised of a desire for help and protection, a fear of abandonment, a need for minimizing the possibility of rejection. Most of the victims of domestic violence are economic and emotional dependents; the problem with emotional dependence is that although their partner beats them, they think that their partner loves them. With this type of psychological and physical abuse, it affects the victims onto living their lives, causing low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, and suicide. Some women have the mentality to think that no other man will be able to love them so they stay and live with abuse until it becomes natural in their lives. The beginning of male dominance starts with adolescent boys by learning to dominate through their relationships with women.
