A content connection that I have on the topic of miscue analysis is from my LITY 3352 course. In the textbook for that course, miscue analysis is briefly touched on and an example chart is provided on how to complete a miscue analysis. The chart that is provided is very basic and is divided between error types and error analysis with the sentences being typed in boxes to the left of these errors. I feel that the coding that was taught in Miscue Analysis Made Easy is a better way to complete the analysis and gain a better understanding of the reader. Instead of typing the sentences with the possibility of human error, learning the codes and writing them on a copy of the text is a sure way to ensure that anyone reading the analysis including the teacher has a real understanding of the reader.
A personal connection that I have with the reading is just being a reader. I have never witnessed a miscue analysis or heard a lot about it before this class. I also do not recall if a miscue analysis was ever performed on me as a child. I can relate to some of the

I like the idea that was provided in the book that suggested incorporating miscue analysis and readers’ workshop in the classroom. By incorporating miscue analysis into my conferences with students I will be able to keep data on my students reading abilities without feeling overwhelmed or caught off guard. I will also continually know where they stand in their reading abilities and any areas that can be a cause for concern. Another great idea provided by the author is for the students to understand miscues in reading and for them to know that everyone makes mistakes. Like stated in the text, these ideas can then lead students into use their own miscues to decide if a book is easy, hard, or right for them. This is an excellent way to promote metacognition in students and to hold them accountable for their
