Obesity in America is a serious problem affecting many Americans currently and is a problem that continues to grow each year. Two out of every three Americans are overweight and that number has been predicted to rise to three out of four by 2020 (1). Josh Rushing, in the documentary Fast Food, Fat Profits: Obesity in America, examines why obesity in the United States is becoming a bigger issue. Rushing investigates how the government tries to force changes. Public health in AMerica directly relates to congress. In an attempt to increase health and decrease the overall consumption rates, the city of New York has requested a two year ban on allowing recipients of food stamps to purchase certain items (1). The biggest problem related to fast-food restaurants, is their prices. The extraordinarily low prices such as “Dollar Menus” attract people to the restaurants and continually keep them coming back. Fast-food restaurants sell food that taste good. These foods give the human body energy; however, this energy only lasts a short amount of time. This leads the body to have to consume more and more (1). By consuming such foods and drinks regularly, American teenagers, adults and children slow down their metabolism by up to 12 times (2). America is not reaching all time obesity rates by fast-food itself. A leading social problem leading to weight gain in America is stress. Many Americans have many things to stress over in their lives, including money, family, health, and their homes. All of these cause lots of stress, which can lead to be overweight. Lack of exercise also plays a huge role in growing obesity rates in America. With all of the new technological advances, Americans are becoming more and more lazy. Our youth love to play the new, high-tech, exciting video games. With this new and upcoming lack of exercise it is impossible to be
