The time between adolescence and adulthood can be a very weird and developmental time. This is when the adolescent gains all the skills and thought process of an adult. This is when the habits that follow you into adulthood are created. Many times these habits can be seen in adults that have not been taught or shown how to properly manage their thought process. Formal operational thought begins to arise in adolescence. This is when abstract thinking begins; they can think past what is here and now to what can be. Before the concrete operational thought was very straight forward with the facts that are known. Hypothetical thought begins, this is the if-then thought. Intuitive is assumption or a general rule, typically a fast thinker. Analytical thinkers take their time and look for logical or hypothetical reasoning. Both of these thought process and used by everyone, one more dominate than the other. As they emerge into adulthood analytical thinking is more common. Adults tend to take their time and think logical about a situation opposed to an adolescent that will go based on their intuition and react much quicker.
When emerging into adulthood there are a lot more factors that come in to play, more responsibility, more bills, finding a partner, a career path, and so on. This puts a lot on their plate that was not there before. All of these factors can cause a lot of stress on that person; especially if things go wrong. This can cause a downward spiral in their psychological health.
More people in the emerging adulthood experience mental illnesses or psychological disorders. These typically appear in childhood and go untreated. They become worse as they grow older. Stress can cause these to worsen and can lead to depression and anxiety. This can happen when the emerging adults cannot find jobs or are failing in school. This gives them a sense that they cannot succeed and move forward as an adult. This can become even worse if they are hit with multiple things at a time, such as, losing their job, then not being able to find another, which then leads to not being able to pay their
