Being racist has become the biggest insult in America as America tries to distance itself from our not so distant racist past. In my opinion race still plays a large part in America life. There are still instances in which people based on race have more of an advantage than their white counterparts. Racism however much said to be over still permeates American life as it's effects are felt by many minorities throughout their life. “Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (Title VII), which prohibits employment discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin;” Minorities may have been given more opportunities in terms of jobs, but this law is only a band-aid put over a 7 inch gash that has been allowed to fester over the years of segregation and has now become infected. “Disparities in course offerings mean students of color have fewer opportunities to challenge themselves with more difficult courses- the type of courses needed to prepare for a four-year college degree for a high-paying career in STEM.” In the US news data shows the startling differences between minorities and whites in education. Education is an important factor of raising a persons socioeconomic status. This is a contributing factor of how race is a disadvantage to those who are not white. I grew up in a predominantly Hispanic and black community. The schools that I went to were poorly funded as classes were overcrowded and taught only the basics. There was not a lot of money to spend on electives or extra curricular activities. My experience as a minority in the education system has led me to believe that the education system is biased in favor of whites. White neighborhoods and schools have more
