Racism in America still has it’s hold especially in black communities and the African-American population. A portion of the white population believe that "black lives matter" is racist towards whites and are attacking them, But Racism is still alive and we need to work together towards equality.Each day more and more african Americans fall under the oppression of whites. Racism didn’t get it’s start until after the Civil War when the 13th amendment was passed abolishing slavery. African Americans began voting, using public education and holding office positions. Yet, by the end of the reconstruction era in the 1870s, white supremacist groups came to power imposing Jim Crow laws that deprived African-Americans of most of the rights they just gained. Let’s start with pre-K,NPR reported that black preschoolers are more likely to be suspended than white children. Almost half of out of school suspensions are black children even though they only make up 18 percent of the pre-K population. In grades K-12, black children are three times as likely to be suspended versus white children. When juveniles hit the court system, racism shows its ugly face again. Black children are 18 times more likely to be sentenced as adults than white children, and make up nearly 60 percent of children in prisons, according to the APA. In the workplace, a study found that people with ¨black sounding names¨ had to send out twice as many applications than people with ¨white sounding games¨ just to get a call back. The higher up the pay scale you go, the worse it gets. For every $10,000 increase in pay, the likeliness of an african-American holding that job drops by 7 percent compared to whites. I could list hundreds of statistics like these, and we haven’t even touched on efforts to suppress voting or the strange injustices of the never ending war on
