My Responsibility to America: America, the land of the free and home of the brave. It is the country I am proud to serve and be a part of. As Americans, we have many responsibilities to our country. We are to carry on the traditions that our founding fathers left behind for us. We must support and defend the constitution. We should pay our income and other taxes honestly and on time, to federal, state and local authorities. As Abraham Lincoln once said, “ You cannot escape the responsibility of tomorrow by evading it today.” This means that you cannot be irresponsible in life and expect good things to come out of that. You have to be responsible if you want to succeed in life.

When I say the pledge I am pledging to be loyal and committed to my country. Republic is a state in which supreme power is held by the people and their elected representatives, and which has an elected or nominated president. This is important to America because we elect our officials and leaders instead of having them assigned to us. That is part of why we are considered free. Indivisible is defined as being unable to be divided or separated. That means that no matter what may come against us, Americans were made to be strong and united. Liberty means the state of being free from oppressive restrictions imposed by authority on one’s way of life, behavior or political views. Liberty is a privilege. Justice is defined as just behavior or treatment, the quality of being fair and reasonable and the administration of authority and maintaining this. When laws are broken we have a justice system in place to decide what is fair and reasonable. When we say the pledge we should think about what the words mean and not take them
