When someone thinks of professional athletes they typically think that athlete has played their respective sport for a long time, and sometimes they have only played that sport, sports specialization. Sports specialization is when the athlete only plays one sport and focuses on that one sport. This issue is still relatively new to the sports world so there is not a great deal of research completed yet. Specializing is not necessarily a good or bad thing, but that is if the athlete is older. Starting specialization early in the adolescent years has some effects on the adolescents. But the effects of sports specialization is not limited to just the athlete. All experts agree that some type of sports specialization in needed to become a professional athlete, but not very many agree on when the athlete should start specializing. Some of the experts agree that specialization should start later after adolescents years. Some say that it doesn’t matter when specialization starts. Some injuries can either end or seriously damage a young athlete's future career, this not just applies to younger athletes but his can apply to an athlete on any level. There is two athletes on the college level that i can think of that had serious injuries. One was Kevin Ware, he was playing basketball for the louisville cardinals when he broke his tibia in half. This was a very serious injury and he could not play until the next year. By then he had transferred to another school to play basketball. The other injury that i could think of his name was Marcus Lattimore he was a running back for the south carolina gamecocks. He had a very bad knee injury which basically ended his football career he went on to play one year in the NFL then he
