The Berlin Airlift was a series of organized flights to Eastern Europe to aid the trapped citizens of East Berlin providing Necessities. Russia did what’s known as the Berlin Blockade stopping western influence from entering into russian territory. Berlin citizens were starving and russia did not provide them with necessities. In response to that the U.S., Great Britain, France, and other nations joined to fly more than 200,000 flights filled with necessities for the berliners. A total cost of over 24 million dollars and 2,323,738 tons of food, machines, fuel, medicine, etc. An event after the Berlin Airlift was Kristallnacht or the NIght of Broken Glass due to the streets being covered in shards of glass from businesses, synagogues, and homes. Ignited by an illegal jew shooting and killing a german diplomat nazi’s in retaliation torched synagogues, vandalized jewish homes and businesses killing approximately 100 jews. After Kristallnacht jews conditions worsen following the incident. After kristallnacht germans held the Jewish community responsible for the damages and fined them $400 million. December 7, 1941 Japanese fighter planes attacked a U.S. Naval base damaging 20 ships and 300 airplanes but luckily missed the aircraft carriers due to their safe distance. The Japanese planned two attacks each 45 minutes apart making the air raid last approximately 2 hours. Both attacks killed 2,043 U.S. soldiers and injured 1000. All damaged ships were either repaired or reused. The U.S detected the japanese presence through radar but didn’t consider it a threat and let down their guard.
