The United States Government requires public schools to have Standardized tests annually. The Federal Government gives us some pros and cons from their views on standardized testing. Standardized tests, are tests which are given to all students in public schools to mandate how each and every student has improved or unimproved over the current school year. This judges not only student abilities, but also teacher abilities. The general routine for students in public schools is for teachers to teach the correct curriculum in a certain amount of time. The material taught is what is characterized to be on the standardized tests at the end of the semester. Standardized tests are based on information that has been taught by teachers to students in the current year or semester. From third grade up to eighth grade in North Carolina tests are scored using the numeric numbers of one-to-four. If a “one” is scored on a test, it is evidence that the student done very poorly. If a “two” is made on a test there is evidence that the student placed under average. If a “three” or a “four” is placed on the test, there is evidence that the student done better than average and succeeded very well on the test. Test scores are known to show what level of academics each student is at. Test scores often evaluate how intelligent students are. However, I happen to disagree with this. I don’t think a test score should evaluate the intelligence of a student. It is a known fact that students with disabilities are often the most effected by standardized tests. The reasons of this being, because student’s brains with disabilities often do not proceed accurately or at the same pace. Students are often judged by their standard test scores, which I do not see as an advantage. This often hurts students because they are being compared to
