Western Religious Comparison Essay
The major western religions are Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Christianity is the largest religion of the world with currently 2 billion adherents. It’s holy scripture that is studied is the Holy Bible. People who follow Christianity are known as Christians and there clergy is priests, ministers, pastors and bishops. The founder of Christianity is Jesus Christ. He had founded this religion in 33 CE. Jesus Christ is also known as being the savor of all Christians, because he had died for us so that we can live life. Aramaic and Greek (Latin) were the origin languages on the Christianity religion. Christianity’s main day of worship is on Sundays and is held in churches, chapels and cathedrals. A main religious law is called the Canon Law, it is of the Catholic Church which is a system of laws and legal principles made and enforced by the hierarchical authorities of the Church to regulate its external organization and government and to order and direct the activities of Catholics toward the mission of the Church. Major concentrations of Christianity is located in Europe, North and South America, and also has been having rapid growth in Africa. The religious journey that had taken place in Christians was the movement to Rome. Christianity is spread throughout the entire world and impacts people’s lives in a way of creating a path for their lives. Judaism is not as massive of a religion then Christianity or Islam but it takes a part of history that is abundantly important. Judaism is the 12th largest religion in the world. Judaism’s clergy are known as rabbis adherents are called Jews or Jewish adherents. The Jew’s religious law is a Halakhah which is the path that one walks, the Jewish law. The complete body of rules and practices that Jews are bound to follow, including biblical commandments, commandments instituted by the rabbis, and binding customs. Their main day of worships are on Saturdays in Synagogue’s which is a Jewish assembly or congregation. Judaism is one of the oldest religions in the world today. Judaism extends back through the ancient Israelite and Hebrew people to Abraham (Moses). Throughout the history centuries and millenniums of suffering, persecution, dispersion, and victory, Judaism continues to exert an influence around the world. Jewish beliefs begin with the conviction that there is only one God. This important truth is revealed through the sacred writings of men like Moses and the prophets, the most important of which is the Torah. The main concentration is located in Israel, Europe and the US. Islam is a monotheistic religion based on revelations received by the prophet Muhammad in 622 CE, which were later recorded in the Quran, which is Islam's sacred text.
