Eric Owen or "Bass-Baritone" is a phenomenal oboe player and opera singer. He is a role model for all choir and band students. Eric Owens first started music when he was six, he played the piano. As he got older in junior high he play we the clarinet. Later he switched to the oboe. He and his mother lived alone together when his dad divorced. They lived through hard times together. When Mr. Owens was in high school at Central High School he switch to choir his senior year. Then he entered a pre-college program at Temple University. He then began his career as a professional Opera singer. He was in a movie called "Doctor Atomic", I have never seen the movie personally. He also won a Grammy Award for Best Opera Recording. Eric Owens made his debut in 2002. He soloed in Beethoven's Symphony 9. I think band students should hear Mr. Owens because he had a connection with band when he played in middle school and the three years of high school. Also he was on our wiki for this week.
Eric Owens is in a season of the Metropolitan Opera as Alberich in Das Rheingold, a production by Robert Lepage. He played the title role in Peter Sellars’s production of Handel’s Hercules. He returns to San Francisco Opera as Ramfis in Aïda. He also joins Riccardo Muti and the Chicago Symphony as Lodovico in the performance of Verdi’s Otello. They were both in Chicago and at Carnegie Hall. He sings songs like Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis with Donald Runnicles and
