The Aurora, Colorado Movie Theater shooting and the Sandy Hook elementary school shooting are both recent shootings that have ended up in a huge amount of fatalities. Both of these shooters were young adults that had mental health issues. Even though there was evidence of these mental health issues long before the shooting happened they were young adults that had mental health issues. Even though there was evidence of these mental health issues long before the shooting happened they were still able to purchase their guns legally. Although I am a huge advocate for guns I still believe that broader gun policy is necessary to contain the violence associated with guns. This topic is creditable because it has been the hottest topic in the news for what seems like forever. People have been talking about gun control ever since the first ever identified mass shooting in 1983. Since I am a gun advocate I have been keeping up with the gun control debates over the years and I feel that I am capable of speaking on this topic. Today I am going to be covering all different aspects of the gun control debates such as: reasons as to why guns are good or bad, the plans that politicians have tried or are trying to enact and the plan I think should be used. You will benefit from listening to this speech because you will have a better understanding as to what some people and politicians believe about this topic. You will also be able to decide for yourself whether or not you believe in gun control or not.
The 4 main arguments that are reasons as to why gun control is necessary are: • Guns need safety inspections. (Guns are not subject to the same kinds of consumer safety checks as other products. They aren't used by children, so they don't need to be checked as much. • Mandatory safety instruction and testing for gun owners. (A mandatory quiz and instruction must be passed and completed to have the right own a gun) • Licensing for guns like licensing for cars. (Gun owners must register their guns the way people register cars, and want gun owners to have licenses like they do for cars) • Broader background checks. (Anyone that has been convicted of a felony or has a mental health issue may not own a gun) With the arguments for gun control stated; I believe the only one that would be possible is broader background checks. I believe this is the only reasonable argument for gun control because it does not make any unnecessary steps to own a gun.
