On June 15th, 2013 a horrible car crash occurred that killed 4 people and injured many more. This car crash was caused by a 16 year old named Ethan Couch, who at the time of the incident was drunk. Couches defense team used the defense of Affluenza, Affluenza is an term used to describe irresponsibility because of an affluent upbringing. Affluenza is a term used to describe irresponsibility because of an affluent upbringing. The defense team presented this case with Ethan's background, sociology terms and how they applied to the case.

When Couch, his defense team, and the famed psychologist Dr. Miller approached the stand they brought up the argument of Affluenza, Affluenza is a term used to describe irresponsibility because of an affluent upbringing. Firstly This is a argument similar to a 1989 case where a Chinese man beats his wife to death for being unfaithful. Secondly during the case when Dr. Miller used the argument of Affluenza he brought up the fact that Couch's parents were responsible for the whole thing, because of them never having Couch take responsibility. Thirdly Ethan also showed signs of Affluenza before the crash showing lots of irresponsible actions before the crash such actions include underage over drinking, playing chicken with cars, and partying out late

Miller's Affluenza diagnosis was based on many sociology terms Such as Cultural relativism, Internalization of norms, and Subcultures. Subcultures are the argument that one's culture should not be judged by the standards of another and viewed from their own perspective. Internalization of norms is the learning of the commonplace rules of society normally done at an early age. Subcultures are groups of people that share some common beliefs but have enough differences to be considered an entirely different
