While majority of nurses are competent with their jobs and able to make decision when it comes to taking care of their patients, the problem comes when there are ethical decisions that are needed to be made because of their patients cultural backgrounds, that can cause problems. Ethical dilemmas comes in all shapes and forms. Some dilemmas are caused by religious cultures. For example, Orthodox Jews do not accept euthanasia, which would include withdrawing tubes from their loved ones, another example is that a patient may not make a decision on their own but will be a mutual decision with their family. Jehovah Witness refuses blood products even though they are aware that they or their love one could die without it. Furthermore, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), can cause a dilemma because some family members by their culture may want some information withheld from the patient. (Andrews) Notwithstanding, health disparities due to economic, education, and health inequities are other forms which causes ethical dilemmas.
