Whether it is religious beliefs, the law or just the difference between right and wrong, every human being has a set of their own. Ethics are very important in shopping because they show consumers where the product really originates from. Customers care about what they buy and must be equipped with the correct information. Many corporations do not allure their consumers with the truth including Chipotle. Most problems and lawsuits resulting from the managers doing wrong on their part. Consumers tend to not think about what happens in the behind the scenes at Chipotle. The Chipotle corporation is unethical and consumers should no longer buy their goods.
To start off with, some research suggests that Chipotle is actually an ethical company when it comes to sustainability. Recycle Nation says, “Chipotle and the other participating restaurants have pledged to reduce 50% of the food waste they send to landfills through composting and other waste prevention plans” (Chipotle’s Sustainable). Sustainability is the ability to be used and not destroyed. It is a very important ethical issue because it helps reduce the harmful impact to the environment. NPR communicates, “Way, way down at the bottom of the page that announces Chipotle's new policy, far below the headline that says, "Food With Integrity; G-M-Over It," you'll find this sentence: "Many of the beverages sold in our restaurants contain genetically modified ingredients, including those containing corn syrup, which is almost always made from GMO corn” (Charles). Many foods on Chipotle’s menu contain high fructose corn syrup including the tortillas, soda, and cheese which is hazardous to the consumers health. Altering food from its genetic makeup is not natural. Chipotle was aware that their statements regarding Genetically Modified ingredients aren't accurate and actually contradicts itself. This shows the evidence of intentional false advertisement and proves that they are unethical. Eater says, "Most animal feed in the U.S. is genetically modified, which means that the meat and dairy served at Chipotle are likely to come from animals given at least some GMO feed” (Hatic). Knowingly serving food from animals who might have been fed hormones and at the same time stating that you do not is blatantly lying to the consumer. This drives the fact of their false advertisement in home because it was proven that animals were given GMO feed.
