Ethical Issues In Law Enforcement

There is a situation that I walked upon where a suspect is down, has been tased, and officers are taking turns hitting this suspect with no explanation given.

I would have to ask why is this happening, what has this person done, and why is this force being implied upon him. I can see that this is an inappropriate behavior. The suspect is down, he is not resisting arrest, but yet, he is being beaten by multiple officers repeatedly. What would I do?

I would stop this from happening, because, we as law enforcement officers took a sworn oath of honor and an oath of ethics. Law enforcement promised to serve and protect not to neglect and obstruct. Law enforcement, as I have stated before, is trusted to carry out the law with pride, dignity, and honor, not to degrade the law with arrogance, bigotry and a chauvinistic manner.

I will not be sworn in to uphold a lie. To agree to something that I did not witness for myself is stepping down to a level that I cannot do, again I took an oath to uphold the law, for all, not for some. I took an oath to protect mankind of any race, or creed, nationality or religious faith. It does not matter who chooses to step outside of their responsibility, the sergeant, lieutenant, captain, a fellow officer or a rookie, wrong is wrong. Law enforcement has different codes that are required once hired into this profession. One of those codes is The Code of Honor. The Code of Honor is a statement of commitment to ethical behavior, and the other is The Code of Ethics which is the mission and commitment made to the public they serve. The Code of Ethics should be treated as the "bible of behavior"(Berisha, 2017, p. 268). I have to agree with the statement, "there are no good ends to a bad act"(Pollock, 2017, p.
