Eudora Welty's The Corner Store

The smells, feels, and sights of the daily adventures to the store. “The Corner Store”, written by Eudora Welty, illuminated this daily adventure perfectly. The corner store was a very simple brick building. When she walked in she could smell the different aromas. Then she observed all the different types of products in the store. There was very high shelves filled with items. She then picked out something for her, which was a drink. She talked about Mr. Sessions, the store clerk. He was described as a very nice man, that never rushed you out to leave. Chronological, spatial, and logical patterns of organization are combined perfectly in “The Corner Store”. I think that this piece of writing uses all three patterns of organization, starting with chronological. Welty writes, “Above the door, a little railed porch ran across on an upstairs level and four the door, a little railed porch ran across on an upstairs level and four windows with shades were looking out”(406). And then again Welty writes, “A standing scale was by the door, with a stack of iron weights and a brass slide on the balance arm, that would weigh you up to three hundred pounds”(407). Welty illustrates, “It was up to you to remember what you came for, while your eye traveled from cans of sardines to tin whistles to ice-cream salt to harmonicas to fly-paper”(406). These items are written as how they are seen in the shelves, and how they are position spatially. Welty also writes, “Making a row under the glass of a counter were the Tootsie Rolls, Hershey bars, Goo Goo Clusters, Baby Ruths”(407). This is another example of spatial organization in this writing. This piece is also written in logical organization. Welty never goes of topic, she just gets very descriptive with her writing. The whole piece of writing is related to the store, and she doesn’t seem to go off track with her
