After reading Walker’s essay, it’s evident that the essay (with a primary development as an animal), is spoken from experience. Due to Walker’s history and her activist activity during the civil right movement, there is immense empathy coming from Walker, for the treatment of her nearest neighbour, “Blue.” The theme developed after reading isn’t one of a simple solution or a happy ending, perhaps even a euphemism. The predominant theme is how the nature of humans, learnt from a learning age, is simply cruel and selfish; whatever precautions shall be taken for the sake of personal benefit. Walker, being a black woman during time of pre and post civil rights movement can deeply understand, relate, and see in the eyes of an animal what it’s
