Eurocentrism Influence On American Culture

Since the beginning of your typical, primary education, you learned the simple phrase, “In 1492, Columbus sailed the ocean blue.” What they failed to teach you is that Christopher Columbus also stole countries, pillaged, raped, and brought diseases along with him. This is an example of Eurocentrism. Eurocentrism is defined as a worldview centered on and biased towards Western civilization which typically varies down to just Europe. You would think that something like that wouldn’t exist in the modern day times. However, Europe is still seen as the highest of the high when it comes to art and government.

Art is one of the many ways people express themselves. It can be portrayed in forms that are but are not limited to music and literature. Music genres range from country to classical. Classical music stems from Europe with roots dating all the back to the late 400s. It comes in
