Due to the Agricultural Revolution, people’s roles in society changed in Europe during the early 1900’s. Farmers became commercial farmers due to higher yielding crops, bigger animals, and machine innovations, in England. The great outputs of products led to the country becoming more independent in producing needed resources, and having a more diversified economic outputs. These outputs also led to an influx of people becoming unemployed and in conjunction with the creation of new technology, Great Britain could industrialize and have a strong economy. Industrialism allowed machine-made goods to be inexpensive and plentiful, which once again raised the quality of life for the British. Additionally, many relatively inexpensive goods were produced and shipped around the world, causing a booming economy to form in England. Once a country has a strong economy, then it becomes even more necessary for a governing body to be formed.

On the contrary, imperializing countries gave women more rights than they ever had before. When analyzing women’s roles in Europe and in Africa, there are some similarities. In both cultures, women were expected to be homemakers and bare children. However, their rights and roles within society differed greatly. In the African tribes, such as the one in Things Fall Apart, women were viewed as property of men due to the practice of polygamy.
