“George raised the gun and his hand shook, and he dropped his hand to the ground again,”(Steinbeck 105). In the novel, Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, George is faced with a very tough decision to let his friend, Lennie, who killed another character's wife, Curley's wife, be put in a jail cell, torchered by Curly and the other guys, or kill him himself. Although now of those would seem like the right decision, there are many examples of mercy killing, or euthanasia, in the book, and it shows that euthanasia doesn’t have to be a bad thing, and that it is a moral way to die. George and Lennie are very close friends, and George has taken care of Lennie ever since they were little kids and Lennie's Aunt Clara past away. George would never do anything to harm Lennie, but he would do anything to protect him. I know that back then, it was a little weird for guys to travel together, and one man taking care of the other, but Lennie way not very smart, his Aunt Clara is the one that took care of him for a very long time.
