Everyman Allegory

Within a story, movie, or a play allegorical natures can be found in the context of a plot. In the story Everyman the main character is allegorical because he represents every human being and their actions to when they encounter death or a near death situation. Goods is symbolic to the story because he symbolizes luxury and wealth on Earth, which God sees as the main problem with his connection to mankind. Good Deeds symbolizes compassionate actions that Everyman does throughout his life, which is the key to salvation. Through a close analysis of the story and the allegorical natures of each characters reveals hidden behaviors and the moral of the story which helps the play continue in a smooth and professional way.
In the story the main character Everyman’s actions and behaviors has a jurassic change from when the story begins to when it ends. You can see the change best in two specific scenes. For example, When Everyman encounters death and tries to bargain for his life. Everyman says “O death, thou comest, when I had the least in mind; In thy power it lieth me to save; Yet of my good will I give thee, if you wilt be kind, yea, a thousand pounds shalt thou have, If thou defer this matter till another day (pg 4 para 3).” When Everyman says this to Death it shows some allegory because ordinarily when someone is dying they do all they can to save

For example, Goods says “ Sir, if ye in the world have sorrow or adversity, that I can help you to remedy shortly (pg 13 para 3).” By stating this Goods explains to Everyman that he can only help for a short period of time. In addition, Goods explains why he cannot go with Everyman. Goods says “Nay, not so; I am too brittle, I may endure; I will follow no man on foot, be ye sure (pg 13 para 7).” What Goods was saying in this statement was he can’t go with Everyman due to his state of being and lack of
