The Evolution of Political Movements: An Analysis of SNCC and BLMM In every society there comes a time when social change is inevitable. As time progresses new ideas of what should be considered right and wrong are realized and civil unrest begins to grow. It continues to grow until the citizens of a society become dissatisfied enough to mobilize together and begin to make a difference. These political movements have happened many times in the history of the United States, some much more recent than others. One of the largest and most important social changes of America occurred as recently as the 1960s in the Civil Rights Movement which began due to the actions of groups such as the Student Nonviolent Coordination Committee (SNCC). Because of the pain, ridicule, and struggle that these men and women faced, African Americans were given equal rights to Whites. However, this did not solve the issues of discrimination, police brutality, and institutionalized racism. These problems have caused an uprising of civil unrest in America once again which has given birth to a new group of civil rights activists known as the Black Lives Matter Movement (BLMM). By comparing the history, actions and accomplishments of these two groups we can see how political movements have
