In today’s society, many people have good educational background; however the usage of words sometimes did not match up to an individual’s knowledge. This can be seen using the word theory, especially in evolutionary theory. People usually refer to a theory as a guess. However, according to the National Academy of Science, a theory is “a plausible or scientifically acceptable, well-substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural world; an organized system of accepted knowledge that applies in a variety of circumstances to explain a specific set of phenomena and predict the characteristics of as yet unobserved phenomena (Evolution).” Creationism and intelligent design often argue that god or a designer created the diversity of life …show more content…
A Transitional form of fish and amphibian was found by Neil Shubin and his colleagues, which was also a proof for evolution. However due to the environment, many terrestrial animals were not well preserved. In terrestrial environments, when an animal died others carnivore will eat it or torn part of the carcass away. Natural disaster also contributed to poorly preserve fossils. Only fossils in well mineralized soils were able to be preserved until …show more content…
Greener mentioned in his article that creationists argued that the eye is too complex and cannot evolve. He used the eyes of the octopus and trout as an example because both have altered lens composition eyes. Through convergent evolution the camera eyes work well for these organisms. The author further wrote, “ The ancestor of the octopus and trout were selected for because these changes to their eyes conferred increased fitness to the organism-they were better able to see, escape predators, and find food…no design was required, only the natural selection of a series of advantageous mutations (Greener).” Some mutations happened result in the gain of the camera eyes that allowed the octopus and trout to navigate their way around better. This gain of camera eyes does not necessary the best. There is no designer because life is not perfect because for instance with advance eyes like human’s eyes and octopus’ eyes there are also disadvantages. Olsen wrote that eyes of human and eyes of octopus independently evolved. He added that an octopus has no blind spots, but it can only see in black and white due to the lack of cones in its eyes. In contrast, we see color within the visible spectrum (400nm-700nm) but we have blind spots. This example shows how natural selection presents advantageous and disadvantageous to organisms, which have nothing to do with a designer, because the eyes of
