What is intolerance? What does intolerance mean to you? The literal definition of intolerance “ lack of tolerance; unwillingness or refusal to tolerate or respect opinions or beliefs contrary to one’s own.” To me intolerance can mean a lot of things, but my definition of intolerance is someone not tolerating another person’s beliefs or opinions. Although intolerance means something else for everyone, looking at examples of intolerance throughout history, seeing what intolerance is like today, will help us not to repeat history, and figure out ways to eradicate unfair intolerance.

One example of intolerance today is athletes kneeling and locking arms during the national anthem in the United States of America. When athletes kneel it shows the intolerance of hatred and standing for a country who is divided. This here is an example of an acceptable intolerance. Another example would be at Tipp City Schools where the administration is intolerant of students and staff who possess disrespect, irresponsibility, and not having integrity. Although there is good intolerance there is still unacceptable forms, such as the current genocide in Myanmar (Burma). In Myanmar there is an “ethnic cleansing” of the Rohingya Muslim group. The Myanmar Army is have said to slaughter at least 9,000 Rohingya Muslims. They’ve shot men, assaulted women, and thrown infants into fires to burn. Even though our world is have said to changed, evolved because we live in the twenty-first century and its 2018. We have countless means of transportation, phones that let us communicate with one another in an instant, and stores just a few minutes away filled with anything you could ever possibly need. We have access to inumerable supplies and have matured so much as a world, as a society, but have we really? There are still people starving in this world. There are still people being killed because of the color of their skin, their religion, their sexuality, their beliefs, and their dreams. Have we really changed that much if …show more content…
One solution could be educating people all of the world about intolerance through history, so history won’t repeat itself. Another possible solution to get rid of unfair intolerance is by making a group of people, or organization, specifically to prevent intolerance outbreaks. For example, the genocide in Myanmar they would go and fight back against the Myanmar Army, and rescue as many Rohingya Muslims as they could. Although there are some benefits of an intolerant society, for example the United States is intolerant of violence or people breaking the laws. Also, it is the law for children to go to school to get and education. Intolerance can take many shapes and sizes through the ages, good and bad,changing throughout time, but let’s hope that history doesn’t repeat itself with unfair intolerance with solutions that could help society for the
