My childhood was split over two distinct continents as my family traveled back and forth between Syria and the United States. We emigrated from Syria to the U.S. in 2001. I was placed in an English Second language program, which I completed the same year and continued my education in regular classrooms. These two years provided me with invaluable cultural experience and interactions with students of various ethnicities and backgrounds. In the summer of 2003, my parents and I moved back to Syria.
