Abandonment. This is what this case is about. William Frankenstein was innocently playing in the fields when a brute-like monster came up to him, and scared the living daylights out of him. This caused William to make noises in an attempt at scaring the monster away. But no, this is not what this monster was attempting, my client was trying to make a friend with William because my client was abandoned once he was created. This left my client alone and to fend for himself. How was my client supposed to know right from wrong if he had never been taught? This is because Victor Frankenstein is the brute who is to blame for the slaughter of his innocent younger brother William. When Victor abandoned my client, it left him alone to fend and teach himself to fit into society and survive. He felt lost and forgotten so he said, “I too can create desolation; … ; this death will carry despair to him”(Shelley 132). My client has been affected by the treatment of his creator. He wants to bring pain and grievance to his creator which was the reason his hands were supposedly around William’s neck. My client wanted to make a friend, but William’s noises were causing him pain but this pain did not cause my client to strangle him. It was the ruthless abandonment from his creator, Victor. My client confesses, “Everywhere I see bliss, from which I alone am irrevocably excluded. I was benevolent and good, [and] misery [has] made me a fiend. Make me happy, and I shall again be virtuous.” (Shelley 87). Jury, you can not call my client guilty. His hands could have been seen around William’s neck, but my client wants to be happy again. When we convict my client he will just become more miserable and want to create more
