The Crucible is a story filled with pain and sacrifices. Salem was forced to endure pain through people’s insanity. Pain is not entirely avoidable and always comes up one way or another. Betrayal is one of the first pains mentioned in the Crucible. The first pain in the Crucible is greed. Abigail williams accused Elizabeth Proctor of witchcraft because she wanted John Proctor.
