Courage
What is Courage? What does it mean to you? Courage can be shown in many ways, such as in overcoming something, facing a fear, and just going for something. There were many ways that courage was shown in “To Kill a Mockingbird”. During the adventure of this essay there will be many ways shown such as cases, killings, and just doing the right thing. The real meaning of courage is the ability to do something that frightens one strength in the face of pain or grief.
First off showing courage through overcoming something and not doing what is acceptable to people is real courage. There is one great example that comes to mind with overcoming something and that is Mrs. Dubose. Dubose was a morphine addict and had Jem read to her after school so that the drug would not be taken or even thought about. Madam Dubose also said very mean things to people that passed. But

The first example that could be used is when Miss Maudie said not kill Mockingbirds. Miss Maudie lives right across the street from Jem and Scout. Madam is a baker and spends a lot of time in her gardens. Miss Maudie is an open minded person and likes talking to the children (Jem, Scout, and Dill). Miss Maudie said that they can kill all the Bluejays that they want because they deserve it but to kill a mockingbird is a sin and the did not do anything. Another example would be when Scout goes up and faces the lynch mob. Scout Finch is the Main Character of the book. Scout is Six at the very beginning of the book. When it comes to this scene, Scout goes up the Cunninghams and starts saying things such as “Don’t you remember me, Mr. Cunningham? I am Jean Louise Finch (Scout). You brought us some hickory nuts one time, remember?” (Lee 205). Scout was basically trying to keep a distraction and remind him of why he should not lynch on Tom or Atticus. As shown in this paragraph there many ways to show courage through braveness and restraint
