Nick doesn’t have a lot of money: “My own house was an eyesore, but it was a small eyesore”(Fitzgerald 11). Nick only rents a small house because he doesn’t have money. Also, the rent is cheap. He used to be writer, but it doesn’t give him enough money. That’s why he moves to New York and try to get into the bonds business. It shows that Nick has ambition, which is a good attitude.
Tom has a huge amount of money: “ His family were enormously wealthy - even in college his freedom with money was a matter for reproach”, and Nick thinks that: “ It was hard to realize that a man in my own
