Men and women have been looked at very differently throughout time. There has always been double standards and stereotypes that shape the way people think. Women live life constantly being judged on everything they do, while men can get away with doing just about anything they want with little consequences. F. Scott Fitzgerald brings these modernist characteristics of social break to life in “The Great Gatsby.” He shows how people believe that it is okay for a man to sleep with or have relations with multiple women while his wife is just supposed to accept it. This double standard often leads to disaster.
