“Romeo and Juliet”, a love story by William Shakespeare contains dramatic irony throughout his story. Shakespeare bases the scene on Juliet's marriage, and all dramatic irony in the scene revolves around her. Paris gives an example of dramatic irony when he states, “Now do you know the reason of this haste” (IV i. 15). Dramatic Irony can cause suspense on the reader, but also in this case humor because of the characters false ideas. In this passage Shakespeare also states an allusion to Venus, the goddess of love. Shakespeare alludes to Venus many times in the story to express love in different forms. This idea of expressed love, helps form a theme of true love throughout the story.
