In a persuasive essay to argue one`s point, it must contain the three appeals ethos, pathos, and logos. Logos which appeals to logic, to convince the audience by use of logic or reason. It uses statistic, research, and or reasoning to get the point across in the argument. Pathos appeals to emotions meaning to try and persuade the audience by appealing to their emotions. The author tries to connect with the audience through emotional experiences. It doesn’t always work because everyone has different life experiences and not everyone will connect with what the author is trying to get across. Ethos which is the ethical appeal, meaning to convince the audience of the author`s credibility or character. They attempt to gain the audiences trust by trying to relate to them. Stone is explaining how we multitask to not miss a single thing that is happening in our daily lives. We live in such a fast pace society therefore we can`t keep up by doing one thing at a time. This leaves us with no choice but to multitask. It isn’t a bad thing if we do it at the right time and in the right situations. For example, every morning I turn the shower on and leave it run while I figure out what I will wear to school.
Watkins uses the appeal logos with some examples of how our world of technology is growing and it`s growing fast. He writes, “[a] 1972 study of southern California sixth graders found that 6 percent of the sample had a television in their bedrooms” (397). Then he writes “[b]y the year 2000, about 20 percent of older youth, ages twelve to eighteen, were accessing computers from their bedrooms” (397).
