In the story, “The Cask Of Amontillado” by Edgar Allen Poe Fortunato states, “‘Enough the cough is a mere nothing; it will not kill me”’ (Poe 214). Then in the next sentence Montresor had stated, “‘true-true”’ (Poe 214). Montresor had responded that way because he knew he was going to kill Fortunato, not some debilitated cough. That is no doubt the most evil foreshadowing in any story that has ever existed. That one word of “true” from Montresor had more evil in it than General Zaroff from the story “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell had in his whole body. Three reasons that make Montresor more evil than General Zaroff are that he did not give Fortunato a chance, he made Fortunato beg for his death without him even knowing it, and he literally foreshadowed Fortunato's death right in front of his face.

In the story, “The Cask Of Amontillado” Montresor had never given Fortunato a chance. An example is right from the start when it states, “The thousand injuries of Fortunato I had borne as best I could; but when he ventured upon insult, I vowed revenge” (Poe 212). That sentence proves that Montresor was never going to give Fortunato a chance, he had wanted him lifeless from the very inception. This is the exact opposite of what General Zaroff had done. Three reasons that make Montresor more evil than General Zaroff are that he did not give Fortunato a chance, he made Fortunato beg for his death without him even knowing it, and he literally foreshadowed Fortunato's death right in front of his face. While on the other hand General Zaroff had given his target a chance, he was just a bored and crazy man, he didn’t even kill his target, and he should not even be in the same sentence as Montresor when talking about the word
