In the novel, the Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald everything falls apart because of greed. The novel is narrated by Nick Carraway who moves to West Egg, New York to learn about the bond business. He graduated from Yale and came from a Midwestern Family. He moved into a small house on West Egg Island, which is fully of people who are new money. One of Nick’s neighbor is Gatsby. Every night, a party is thrown at Gatsby’s house and one day, he personally invites Nick. Nick also goes East Egg Island to meet his cousin, Daisy Buchanan and her husband Tom. Later the next day, Nick learns that Tom is cheating on Daisy with a girl named Myrtle and finds out that Gatsby and Daisy meet five years ago but still have strong feelings for each other. An example of greed can lead to destruction in the novel is when they are on their way to the apartment, Myrtle makes Tom get whatever she wants. In the novel, Myrtle gets greedy while Tom, Nick, and herself are going to Tom’s apartment for a party they are throwing.
