A tragic hero is someone who the audience looks up to but that has a tragic flaw that eventually leads to their death which is the case of Gatsby. Gatsby is a wealthy and powerful man who was not born into money but had to work for it which makes the audience look up to him. Gatsby throws lavish parties at his mansion which he buys in order to capture the love of his long time love.
