In AVI’s novel Nothing but the Truth, the main character, Phillip Malloy is a student at Harrison High School. His teacher, Miss Margaret Narwin, believes that he has potential to do good in her class. However, Philip believes that she just does not like him. Because Philip believes that Miss Narwin does not like him, he decides to make a scene during the morning excercises. When the national anthem is played Phillip decides to hum along to the recording when everyone is supposed to stand at silent respectful attention. This causes himself to have to go to the office, more than once and gets suspended. Phillip’s parents and friends think that this is a outrage, so a reporter shares their story to the paper and it just goes on from their. Many characters from Nothing But the Truth have hidden agendas. Two characters Ted Griffin and Phillips father, Mr. Malloy, are using Phillip’s battle to their own advantage.
Many characters, like Ted Griffen, have used the battle between Philip and the school to their own advantage. Ted Griffen used Philips situation during his speeches at many conferences and meetings. He also uses the battle to urge the listeners to hold down the cost of education. Two of the characters being two of the most supportive, Ted Griffin and Mr. Malloy. In AVI’s novel Nothing But the truth, Philip Malloy, the main character, goes through some conflict with others. By others I mean, teachers, the school, and school administrators. Because Philip went through conflict he had to make up for it through lying. With his battle he told many different stories which turned into even more different stories. However, no one knew the real story.
