Intersectionality is simply a concept that describes how we are constantly members of different groups and as a result of being members of numerous groups at once it only increases our chances of experiencing some sort of discrimination for being part of one if not several groups (Crenshaw, 1.) In other words, intersectionality focuses on the combination of these groups, instead of just looking at one specific group. Intersectionality allows one to think deeper and actually understand that there can be a number of motives behind the discrimination. As for an example of a time I experienced intersectionality actually happened not so long ago. In this case, I saw myself being questioned by the police while walking with a couple of my friends. Of course, I saw myself doing the correct thing and choosing the option that will not only benefit me, but will also benefit the individuals around of me. In order for someone, to be a real ally, they must sacrifice in order to make themselves and others happy. This is what differentiates a real ally from any other ally, the ability to put yourself second, and taking a moment to stop and think if the choice you are making is best for everyone. For example, one cannot go around and talk bad about how the gang violence in the city has reached an all time high, but at the same time be the one contributing to the problem. One has to understand that they might be the problem and have to change in order to let others understand that is is possible for the city to be filled with peace, rather than violence. Same goes with promoting peace amongst every individual, in order for change to happen, individuals have to change or else the problem will continue to linger
