It was a rainy night. The sound of a young child sobbing loudly was soon vanished by the time a teenage girl named Sarah spoke a few powerful words. “I wish they would take you away right now!” . At that moment, short and stubby goblins magically appeared and took the small child to the goblin castle that was ruled by a handsome king named Jareth. This story the “Labyrinth “ , was created by Jim Henson and is filled with suspense created by irony. There are three main types of irony. There is situational irony, dramatic irony, and verbal irony. Primarily, verbal irony is a powerful type of irony. It is shown when you say one thing but it could mean another. One example of this is when Sarah states, “You have no power over me!” …show more content…
It is shown when we know what is going to happen when the main character or characters don't. One example of this is when Sarah meets a friendly little worm who knew the secrets hidden within the stone maze. Another example of this is when we know that the goblins are coming for Sarah and her friends. One last example is when Sarah lets her friends come in to her room and they have a party! Suspense is shown in dramatic irony when we know something horrible or surprising will happen to the character or characters. Furthermore, there is also situational irony. Situational irony is where we didn’t expect certain things to happen. One example is that we all know that fairies are sweet and friendly but in the Labyrinth they are notty little creatures. Sarah actually picked one up and it bit her! There was a time in the movie where all the creatures were partying in Sarah’s room, but Jereth as a owl was outside the window watching them. A last example of this is when we find out that Toby’s real name is Toby! Suspense is shown when we did didn't know things were going to happen but they did, good or bad.
