In William Shakespeare’s comedic play The Taming of the Shrew, Lucentio proves intelligence by successfully executing his plan in order to achieve his desire to marry Bianca. Lucentio exhibits faithfulness toward Bianca even after they are married. He does everything he can for Bianca to fall in love with him. Lucentio demonstrates his love for Bianca from the time he lays eyes on her.
Lucentio shows he loves Bianca even from the beginning. He gives up everything just to court Bianca. Lucentio comes to Padua to study but then ends up falling in love with Bianca because of her beauty. They elope and their love is sealed. They must get married before anyone finds out that Tranio is pretending to be Lucentio. Lucentio demonstrates his love for Bianca by getting eloped. They must spend the rest of their lives together, and Lucentio shows he is ready to do that. A merchant also acts as Vincentio, Lucentio’s father. Vincentio finds out someone pretending to be him. Lucentio steps in before the fake Vincentio and Tranio get the real Vincentio arrested. Lucentio, being as smart and cunning as he is, calms Vincentio down and they work everything out. He explains his love for Bianca when he says, “Love wrought these miracles. Bianca’s love made me exchange my state with Tranio…” (Shakespeare V: i, 127-128). Lucentio explains that love made him disguise himself. He created the plan because of his love for Bianca. Lucentio must explain his love for Bianca to his father so Vincentio accepts their marriage. As the important play critic Brain Morris states, “Bianca transforms Lucentio into a lover, and likens her beauty” (Morris 1). Lucentio justifies his love for Bianca to his father because Bianca turned him into a lover. During the last scene, Lucentio takes part in betting on his wife. He bets on whether Bianca will come when he asks her to. She doesn’t come, but this shows that Lucentio trusts his wife. He thinks she will come, which why he takes part in the betting.
