Over the weekend while at Costco I observed two things in particular to space. The first one was while in the bathroom there were two gentlemen at the urinal one was standing on one end, and one was standing on the other end. I believe that they were selective about where they chose to use the bathroom as a form of power. None likes to have their space invaded since it can lead to an invasion of privacy. This could also be the reason that many times when going to the bathroom as men we see one person standing at the urinal and one person standing in the stall.

Another reason I think that they were selective about where they chose to use the restroom was for comfort. Allot of time when people are doing anything whether it sitting, or standing they like to be comfortable and don’t want to become crowded in. Perhaps as well as wanting to have their privacy another reason they could have wanted to stand on opposite ends was to have a little breathing room since some people don’t like being crowded and needed that extra space. Throughout the course of my observation, I didn’t notice any difference in age, gender or religion.

Those who knew each other stood relatively close and looked very friendly, and those who didn’t know each other stood far apart and looked very unfriendly. I believe that the reason those who didn’t know each other stood far apart was also as a form of them exerting power through nonverbal
