To Kill a Mockingbird does include some pessimistic thoughts and actions, the majority of that being racism. However, the overall novel discusses an optimistic view of the world. A great example in the book about optimism is during the Tom Robinson case. Although he loses the case because of his race, Atticus proved that ideas and morals were changing when he kept the jury out of the courtroom longer th any other man. The most optimistic character in To Kill a Mockingbird is Miss Maudie because no matter what happened she always had a positive thing to say. Miss Maudie always had a nice thing to say about Boo Radley. She tells the children "He always spoke nicely to me when he was a boy.” Also, when Miss Maudie’s house caught on fire and all
