DBQ: Political Disputes: 1820-1860 Since the time the founding fathers had founded America, there have been new ways of keeping order, & laws have came & gone. America back then wasn’t as big as it is today, people have fought for what they believed in many times & America has won many wars to make it what it is today. Over 150 years ago, people in the United States had owned slaves. Eventually, people have started to disagree with that lifestyle. Soon, the compromise between the slave states and the free states had been starting to break down with all the new states coming in, the balance between slave states & free states is uneven, the United States decided that the new states should be able to have slaves if they wanted, but the South disagreed & the North had to figure out a way to revive the compromise without the Southern States from seceding because they might feel threatened because they could lose their slaves. …show more content…
