You know what happens when people who are powerless get power? Think about times in history when people used and abused their Power. Napoleon and Hitler used their power the same thing happened when Arthur Miller wrote his book The Crucible. The Crucible is a play that takes place in Massachusetts during the Salem witchcraft trial. The Salem witchcraft trial was a point in time were several people were accused of practicing witchery. The people that were accused had two options, either confess and have your named shamed or be hung for your partake with the devil. The accusers knew that they had the power over the town therefore they became vengeful. Like Hitler and Napoleon, Abigail Williams was a powerless person until she became a “witness” to witchcraft. Like many who are powerless Abigail began to use her power for evil and to better herself. Powerless was the word that could be used for Abigail at the beginning of the play. When the play began it talks about the life of the puritans. Their belief on children was to be seen not heard, they had no say on what was going on. When John met Abigail in the woods, after Elizabeth had been arrested, she was very giddy to see him. John was very upset with her, but she was convinced that he would get over Elizabeth once she was dead.
