People of color have always been segregated in America. 42 a movie about Jackie Robinson's struggle to the top of MLB showcases this by giving a visual account of the racism, pain, and emotional trauma he went through to play in the MLB. This type of physical and mental agony can still be seen today, a prime example of this is the Baltimore race riots. 42 not only showcased racism and segregation in the forties, but silently showcases forms of racism that take place today. 42 showcases how Racism is something people choose to have, while some try to instill it in others. The first time the viewer can see this is with Branch Rickey. Throughout the film Branch Rickey constantly saw Jackie Robinson as a baseball player; not a "black man" or a "white man". This fact shows that racism is something we choose to see. Solutions can also be seen in how the Brooklyn Dodgers organization choose to deal with the racist people inside their organization, with a no tolerance policy. Solutions are also seen in the way Pee Wee Reese and Jackie Robinson became friends and how all races can live in harmony. These solutions are important as these problems continue today in different forms. 42 was a great film that showcases race, pride, sports, family, and respect.
