Is sameness a negative or a positive thing? Sameness is a negative thing. The Giver is an award winning book written by Louis Lowry. In The Giver, sameness means everything is the same, no difference, no interesting moments. In the community everyone has a age group, there are no different months. The girls all wear hair bows until they get to a certain age. Everything is a bland shade of gray, there are no colors. They do basically the same thing everyday. Sameness is a negative thing because the community does not have the joy of expressing how they feel, lack of their own loving memories and mask amazing differences between individuals.

Jonas is told he can see beyond, but because he is curious he tries it with his sister but she only feels pain. Sameness is supposed to be a good thing but it stops everyone from seeing the beauty in life.

Its unfair that they took the appealingness of the world away from them. For example when Jonas's dad killed the twin baby, it was because of sameness. They did not want two identical people in the community. They sent the child to Elsewhere. Imagine all theses things that we are so used to seeing kids with disabilities, and different colored hair, diseases and amazing differences are all sent to Elsewhere all because they are diverse. Sameness stops expression, looks, and natural differences.
