Sociological imagination is defined as “the vivid awareness of the relationship between personal experience and the wider society.” What I think is something that happens in society is the unpredictable event of violence and death. Although I do not have personal experience with a violent situation, I have become a very paranoid person because of what happened in yesterday’s or today’s history. Why I am paranoid is because of the television shows I watch, the articles I read, and the news that I hear. First, let’s talk about television. In today’s society, television might have an influence on people’s thoughts and actions. For me, it would be the fact that the real world can be frightening. One example of a television show that I watch would be Criminal Minds. This show is about the FBI profiling sociopaths and psychopaths and breaking down the reason why these people commit crimes. The one thing about today that irritates is that everyone is over-sensitive about what is said even when what is said is not something to be offended about. Also, the biggest issue right now in this day and age is the results of the election. News would show the violence between Trump supporters and Clinton supporters. An example would include Chicago where people would beat up Trump supporters in the street because they feel like they are given the right to do so. It angers me how ignorant people are because they did not get their way and they will not accept the final decision of the election. Not even today, the last few years have not been safe. There had be tragic events like the Sandy Hook shooting or the Boston Marathon bombing that have made people scared and made security increase. In today’s culture, I feel scared, ashamed, and sad for the world, and it makes me just hope and pray that eventually it will get
