The following book “ To Kill A Mockingbird” , is a book that represents how life was back in the day. There were two characters, Scout and Jim, who didn’t understand some of the problems that occurred. The attitudes that were represented in the book, was an example of The Great Migration. The Great Migration was the movement of 6 million blacks out of the rural southern United States to the Urban Northeast. The Emancipation Proclamation being signed is what caused the Migration. In 1863, less than 8% of the African Americans population lived in the Northeast or the Midwestern United States. By 1900, 90% of the African Americans still lived in the southern states. The 90% of people who lived in the southern states, then moved to the north.
