The work place should be respected and peaceful in order to deliver efficient and excellent care for patients. The cycle of abuse in the healthcare setting between nurses and other staff can be damaging to patients. Abuse can lead to negative emotions and if it is not expressed it will built up until a certain point of explosion making it difficult to work and feel uncomfortable at the workplace. “ The experience of this behavior is psychologically distressing, threatening patient safety, nurse moral, and nurse retention” (Walrafen, Brewer, & Mulvenon, 2012), bullying in general is unaccepted and should be address immediately. My plan or strategy will be to try to understand the one who is starting this type of behavior they might be having a bad day and offend someone unintentionally. I will define what type of violence or bullying it is and the solutions I can take. I will address the problem in private and as soon as I have the opportunity to confront the person involved in a civilized and respectful manner. I will remain calm and express the way I am feeling and the type of bullying it is. I will not be part of this behavior by talking about my personal life in the workplace or participating in gossip or rumors if someone tells me a negative comment I will let them know that it is inappropriate and we should be working as a team to benefit our patients. “Aggressive behavior in the workplace jeopardizes patient safety” (Walrafen et al., 2012).
